September 04, 2012 Apocalyptic Planet Excerpt: Chilean Patagonia
Nef Glacier, Aysen, Chile (photo: James Q Martin)
The camera crew disbanded for some last-minute B-roll, and pretty soon we were scattered across the roof of the glacier. Who could resist? Peering into blue holes or balancing along the tightrope of ice crests, we were kids in a topographic museum full of ice sculptures. We were living in a world that still had ice, vestiges of the Pleistocene. How long would this last? Would my children be able to see this? Would the generation past them?
